Change is in the air: Autumn Equinox is coming

Besides the fact that Indiana got all confused this week and dished up high 90s with the humidity to match and new mosquitoes the size of crows! URG! It’s time for PANTS and SOCKS already!

Besides THAT…

It’s dark when I wake in the morning and when I go to sleep at night - which I LOVE.

The plants are beginning to look a little ragged.

It feels like the summer frenzy - Go! Do! Quick - squeeze all you can out of summer! - is shifting.

It’s back to school time - Target has all the good notebooks!

The Rivi pool deck mid-day on a Friday is all gray haired leather skinned ladies and 30-something moms gathered in peaceful bliss with mimosas in their Owalas.

This is a good time for a reboot.

Mabon season on The Celtic Wheel starts on September 22 - the Autumn Equinox. We’re winding down the Lughnasa season of harvesting & abundance, gathering & celebrating, and moving into the Mabon season themes of transition, completion, release, and balance.

I can feel my energy starting to make that change.

I’m starting to think about what I need to release. Where do I need balance? What do I want to transition into?

How about you?

Are you feeling a shift? What’s this next season calling for?

Times of transition are a great time to schedule an energy cleanse, or a coach session to get clarity on what you want to move into.

I love this description of this time of year from The Daily Dose email I got:

The light is doing something specific—lower, more golden, casting longer shadows than it did even two weeks ago.

The air carries something that wasn't there in July. A coolness underneath the warmth. A clarity that feels almost physical.

Nature is completing summer.

And being present to that completion—really present—is its own form of medicine.

Big picture: Research in environmental psychology shows that time in nature during seasonal transitions has measurably stronger effects on mood, nervous system regulation, and immune function than time in nature during stable periods.

The transition itself is part of what's therapeutic.

What your body's been noticing, even if you haven't:

Outdoor time feels richer and more restorative than it did mid-summer.

The natural world is offering something specific right now—a quality of presence that indoor environments can't replicate.

Morning air has a clarity that feels nourishing in a way that's hard to articulate but easy to feel.

Something about being outside right now feels important—like something worth witnessing.

Try this:

  • Take a slow walk today—not for fitness, for presence.

  • Find one thing in nature today that shows you the season is turning.

  • Sit in late afternoon light—the angle is extraordinary right now.

  • Write one sentence about what nature showed you today.

Here’s to transitions! Happy almost Autumn Equinox! If you’d like support walking through this transition, schedule a coaching session and we’ll talk about it.
