OMG Taylor Swift. You guys!
If you’re rolling your eyes and your finger is hovering over the scroll pad…wait a minute. Hear me out…
I think you’re gonna like this. And it’s really about YOU.
I just watched her documentary about The Eras Tour on Disney+ “The End of An Era”.
AND I AM SOOOO INSPIRED!!!!! It is phenomenal. 10/10 recommend.
It renewed my obsessed fascination with her, first sparked by her documentary on the making of the Folklore album. Then getting the chance to go to her concert. <<< my view in Cincinnati.
I was blown away by the concert production - of course! I could go on and on about that. And you may have had to suffer hearing me do exactly that ;-).
But that’s not what I’m going to talk about here. Well maybe just for a minute…half a minute.
I have NEVER been in a crowd with so much positivity. It was bonkers. ZERO negativity of any kind. 65,000 people shoulder to shoulder. Temps over 90 and humidity to match. AND NO ONE WAS GRUMPY! Not even MEEEEE. That weather set up is the thing of my nightmares. I can’t do it! But I did. And with joy. Everyone was FULL of joy!
I really wanted to know how that happens.
I don’t think it’s about the music. I’m not a Taylor Swift MUSIC super fan, per se. Although I just checked and my “Taylor - Best Of” playlist on Spotify, with my favorite songs, is 4h 44m (yes angel number!) Ok I guess I like alot of her songs. Mostly since the Folklore album. I digress…
Put the music aside.
Put the concert aside.
Back to The Eras Tour documentary that set me on FIRE:
I wrote an entire journal page about why it inspired me so much. And I want to share because it’s not just about Taylor’s magic. She is a mirror. It’s about OUR magic! But first…
Here are the parts of the doc that inspired me so much:
She is so ding dang vulnerable - she writes about her lowest lows, her every emotion and embarrassment and failure. And SHARES IT WITH THE WORLD. Without qualifying it. She owns it all. And that is rare. That gives us all permission to be vulnerable in a world of highlight reels.
She has always followed what she loves. What inspires her. What she’s interested in.
She is so full of joy and excitement and she lets it bubble up and out of her. She does NOT try to be cool. She is silly and dorky and weird and unapologetically over the top - because that’s who she is!
She’s also full of lots of tough emotions - and she lets those bubble up and out too. Fearlessly. No…not fearless…WITH fear.
She’s committed to delighting her fans - what their experience will be like, what she wants them to feel, giving them more than they expect, blowing their mind.
She’s committed to her crew. She talked about how she imagined her dancers and musicians in vivid detail growing up and following their dreams, despite being advised otherwise. She imagined their failures, their triumphs. She imagined all that went into them all coming together. That’s real heart.
She owns everything - her failures, her power, her emotions, her stage. She gets messy and fancy and it’s all ok.
She’s respectful of others. And herself.
She loves to collaborate.
She practices mindset work - “This’ll be great.” “Things - even bad - don’t happen TO me. They happen FOR me.”
She’s a confident leader.
I really admire all of these things.
And I am inspired by her to live more into all these things.
I believe we are all able to - and invited to - create magic like this!
Maybe our stadium is our living room or our kitchen or our office or our business.
Maybe our fans are our family and friends and clients.
Maybe our dancers and backup singers are our girlfriends, our coaches, our co-workers, our book club.
I can do what I love and I can share it. I can also share my sadness.
I can let my joy bubble up and out and not tamp it down so I’m not too much.
So I invite you to join me - how can we all express our own magic?
Man does the world need your magic right now!
It takes courage and intentionality to put all the terrible things going on in the world aside for 3 1/2 hours and stand on that stage and create connection. To be determined to delight people and blow their minds.
How can YOU create connection? How can you delight someone?
Is it making a beautiful and healthy cake for your girlfriend because she says how she loves your healthy treats and they make her feel so good?
Is it hosting a dinner party for your besties and tending to every detail to make them feel enchanted and cared for?
Is it writing a thoughtful card to your husband telling him how much he means to you?
YOU HAVE THE MAGIC! PLEASE SHARE IT!
PS: If this sparked something for you that you need help noodling through - you can schedule a coaching session and we’ll work on it. Cuz gosh dang it I want us alllllll living fully!
Photo cred: I took that first one at the concert in Cincinnati OH. The last one was taken by my daughter’s bestie Harper.
